Composites

Because few noise problems can be solved by using one single type of noise reducing material, Blachford custom designs products in various combinations. For instance, it is frequently desirable to have a layer of vibration damping material, or more often, a layer of sound barrier material adhered to a sound absorbing material.

Instead of simply increasing the mass of a barrier to obtain greater sound barrier properties, Blachford has developed a broad line of light weight decouplers which are designed to separate the barrier layer from the wall or substrate. This decoupling enhances transmission loss without adding a great deal of weight. Examples are decouplers made from specially constructed low density fibers or foam. Weight, thickness, sound transmission loss, sound absorption, damping, and environmental requirements are all taken into account during the design of a composite.

Blachford has a unique manufacturing line which not only compounds barrier or damping layer, but also combines in-line numerous layers (absorbers, barriers, decouplers and dampers) in a very efficient one-step operation.
